RUBBER MATERIALS

Materials

The Right Rubber for the Right Application

We work with a range of elastomers and rubber compounds selected according to temperature, mechanical load, contact media and the performance requirements of the final component.

MATERIAL SELECTION

Material Selection Starts with Real Operating Conditions

There is no single rubber material suitable for every application. Selection depends on temperature, contact with oils, fuels, water or chemicals, weather exposure, deformation and mechanical load.

The elastomer and specific compound should therefore be treated as an integral part of the engineering solution for the component.

RUBBER MATERIALS

Main Elastomers and Their Applications

We work with different elastomer systems depending on the operating environment, temperature, mechanical loads and the performance requirements of the finished component.

EPDM

Weathering, Water and Ozone

A suitable choice for applications exposed to weathering, water, steam, ozone and ageing.

Typical applications:
seals, sleeves, profiles and outdoor technical rubber components.
NBR

Oils and Fuels

Widely used for components operating in contact with mineral oils, lubricants and fuels.

Typical applications:
seals, O-rings, diaphragms and technical rubber components.
SBR

Mechanical Durability and General Applications

A versatile and economical choice for many technical rubber components where high resistance to oils is not required.

Typical applications:
buffers, pads, seals and general industrial rubber components.
SILICONE

Temperature and Long-Term Elasticity

Suitable for applications where elasticity over a broad temperature range and material stability are important.

Typical applications:
seals, diaphragms, technical components and heat-resistant rubber parts.
HNBR

Oils, Temperature and Mechanical Loads

Suitable for more demanding applications combining exposure to oils, elevated temperatures and mechanical loading.

Typical applications:
automotive, industrial and high-load sealing systems.
FKM

Chemicals, Oils and High Temperatures

Used in demanding operating conditions, including exposure to aggressive media, oils and elevated temperatures.

Typical applications:
seals, valves and components for chemical and industrial environments.
MATERIAL ENGINEERING

We Do Not Select a Material by Polymer Name Alone

Two compounds based on the same elastomer can perform differently depending on formulation, hardness, curing system and the specific operating requirements of the component.

Key selection factors:

• operating temperature
• oils, fuels, water and chemicals
• weathering and ozone exposure
• hardness and required deformation
• pressure, vibration and mechanical load
• component geometry and manufacturing process
• expected service life
